John Hohman shows
MetroMix DJ John Hohman, as a founding principal of MetroMix, is enjoying a long, successful career in music and media. Born, raised, and based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, John and MetroMix have been pioneers of the DJ art form, the mix show, the record remix, DJ software, and video remixes.
It began with free-lance editing, production, and DJing in San Francisco at Automatt Studios and KITS-FM in 1984. MetroMix’s CHR mixshow was first broadcast in 1985 on WYDD-FM, Pittsburgh. MetroMix’s urban Hohman & Harris House Party mixshow was first broadcast on legendary WAMO-FM in 1989. MetroMix’s Rhythm/Crossover mixshow launched on Mix Jamz 100.7 WMXP-FM in 1990. MetroMix was also aired on The Beat 104.7, 96.1Kiss Fm and on Q92.9 FM WLTJ from 2012 through 2016 and now on KRYC Rhythm 105.9 FM . These programs have also been carried on stations across the United States and as additional music radio formats and new musical genres have become popular, MetroMix radio shows have been created and produced weekly for several music formats and niches (including but not limited to AC, Rock, Country, Electronica and “Jammin’ Oldies”). Hohman has also been a Billboard Magazine reporter for the Pittsburgh Club and Radio market since 1987.
MetroMix Hohman also became a fixture of the Pittsburgh region’s club scene, maintaining residencies at VIP, Heaven, Confetti, Metropol, Coconuts, W.P.Nix, , Europa, Angel’s, Network, The Magic Twanger, Rock Jungle, Bongos, Touch, Chauncy’s, Matrix , Velvet , Exit, Liquid ,Goddess, Cake and Cavo. MetroMix John Hohman can be heard DJing at Disco Under The Stars, Wednesday nights starting June at the Pennsylvania Market in the Strip District.
At the same time, MetroMix Hohman performed around the country, New York to Chicago to Los Angeles to San Francisco to South Beach, and around the world, in some of the most highly regarded clubs, including Glam Slam, Palladium, Centro-Fly, Chaos, Level, M, and in larger venues, from Pittsburgh's Three Rivers Stadium to L.A.’s Staples Convention Center to the Exposition Center of Frankfurt, Germany, to Le Palais de Congres in Cannes, France, to New York's Madison Square Garden. A highlight performance was on VH1’s Divas TV Special, where MetroMix John Hohman performed as a member of Chic band for Diana Ross, Donna Summer, Mariah Carey and Destiny's Child and under the musical direction of Nile Rodgers
Hohman, along with his creative and business partner, were proclaimed “MP3 Pioneers” on the cover of the International DJ Expo issue of DJ Times magazine, October, 2000, and were recognized for their early adoption and use of mp3 music files and for their contribution to the development of PCDJ, one of the most advanced and widely-used DJ software programs.
∙ MetroMix Hohman’s other pioneering efforts are directed at producing music video remixes, scoring big with Kylie Minogue’s Get Outta My Way, Kick-Ass starring Nicolas) Crossfire Cage, Mark Strong, Aaron Johnson, Chloe Moretz, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, with vocals by Mika, Brandon Flower’s (of the Killers (featuring Charlize Theron), and Enrique Iglesias’ “I Like It” featuring Pitbull and the principal cast of MTV’s Jersey Shore.
Also an early record remixer, Hohman remixed Columbia Records’ Double Entente “Sleeping Dogs Lie,” single produced Randy Jackson in 1984, using a razor and tape. Subsequently, in the digital age, MetroMix completed many fully
produced record remixes for A & M Records, ATLANTIC Records, COLUMBIA Records, EPIC Records, HOT Tracks, POLYGRAM Records (U.S. and Germany), MAXI Records, MUSIC PLANT Records, RCA Records, STOCKHOLM Records (Sweden), STRICTLY RHYTHM Records, SONY Music Group (U.S. and Japan), and WARNER Bros. Records. U.S. artists have included Gloria Estefan and The BeeGees, international artists have included E-Type and U96.
MetroMix’s greatest remix success was SONY Records/So So Def recording artist Jagged Edge’s single “Let’s Get Married,” for which Hohman, and his creative and business partner, received writing credit. The maxi-single, featuring a MetroMix disc made its debut as and remained the #1-selling maxi-single on the Billboard® Maxi-single Retail Sales charts for four weeks in addition to receiving chart-topping radio airplay, pushing Jagged Edge into Triple Platinum sales and becoming Billboard®'s #5 Retail Sales Maxi-Single of the Year.
MetroMix John Hohman’s latest remixes success were with Motown Recording Artist Diana Ross’s I’m Coming Out 2018 which climbed to #1 on the Billboard, Rhythm Nation Records Artist Janet Jackson’s Made For Now which reached #1 on Billboard, Universal Music Recording Artist Jennifer Hudson’s I’ll Fight reaching #3 on Billboard, Universal Music Recording Artist Anggun’s The Good Is Back peaking at #20, Simply Rayne Recording Artist Reached #42 on her first release on Billboard, Popsicle Records Recording Artist Vali Pluto peaking at #15 Schiff Music Recording Artist Drew Schiff peaking at #13, Def Jam Records Recording Artist Teyana Taylor’s WTP reaching #35 on Billboard, Hollywood Records Recording Artist Sabrina Carpenter Sue Me reaching#1 on Billboard.
