If you are looking for a DJ who is passionate about all things music, look
no further than DJ Speedy Jr. He was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut to
Puerto Rican parents, and at the age of 12, he moved to Tampa Bay. Just
a few years later, at 15, he was DJing and that was largely thanks to the
influence of his dad, the original DJ Speedy, Luis Gonzalez. His dad’s
background in music was pretty extensive, and he actually played the piano
in a salsa band and he was a percussion player in the 70’s. It was Latin
music that Speedy Jr. fell in love with, and he also became immersed in
the 80’s and 90’s hip-hop culture.
He made quite a name for himself by performing at the Bay Area’s top
nightclubs, such as Fuel, Mirage, The Kennedy, Hyde Park Cafe, and
many more. DJ Speedy Jr. also has over 20 years of experience as a
professional DJ and radio personality working on such stations as WMNF
88.5 FM, Rumba 680 AM, 106.1 FM. He’s also worked as a guest speaker
and on air mixer on various nationwide radio stations too.
Fast-forward to today and he is a mix show coordinator and assistant program director for 92.5 Maxima FM WYUU in Tampa Bay. He is a self-confessed lover of music and no genre is out of reach for him. Some of what he plays include Salsa, Hip-Hop, Merengue, Reggaeton, Freestyle,
House, and more. He is currently known as one of the top Reggaeton DJ’s
in Florida and he continues to wow with his sets. DJ Speedy Jr. has been
nominated for a bunch of prestigious awards, and won Latin Mixx DJ of
the year 2007, 2008 and also best mixtape DJ in 2010, with a notable recognition in 2015, and more. A combination of his talent and his reputation
has taken him around the country to a number of prestigious nightclubs
and major events.
Even in pandemic times in 2021, his talent was noted by the city’s top
sports brands, including the Tampa Bay Lightning, Tampa Bay Rays, and
the Superbowl Champs, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Not many DJ’s get
selected to perform at top NFL events but Speedy Jr. is the exception. He
is also a regular contributor to the Saturday Night Dance Party. If you want
